GUCCI ICON-TEMPORARY is a flash sneaker store that will travel the world starting in October 2009. Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini has collaborated with award-winning musical artist Mark Ronson on the design of a limited edition collection of Gucci Ronson sneakers.
Ronson a grammy award winner and producer of hit artists such as Amy Winehouse and Lilly Allen has followed suit and not far off in style to Kayne West with Louis Vuitton. The boat shoe inspiration is having a revival by the heavy hitting fashion and music crowd. The Gucci Ronson sneaker will be introduced at each international destination of the tour, in addition to an exclusive edition of 18 sneaker styles in the GUCCI ICON-TEMPORARY sneaker collection. The collection includes 16 men’s styles and 2 women’s styles.
Frida Giannini said: “From the moment I first sat down with Mark we connected. He has a great eye for design and an amazing knowledge of sneaker history. He is an artist whose influence is cross-cultural and cross-generational.”
Mark Ronson commented, “I spent many many years as an avid sneaker collector, so I wanted to make sure these Gucci shoes were truly special, both from an aesthetic point of view and a collectable one. Frida and I also agreed it was important for there to be a unique musical element to the project, so I’m going to be collaborating with artists, making limited edition tracks for each store opening”.
Each client will receive a custom 12-inch vinyl record with exclusive tracks, selected by Mark Ronson, as a gift with the Gucci Ronson sneaker’.
The first GUCCI ICON-TEMPORARY store will debut at Crosby Street in New York on October 23, when Frida Giannini and Mark Ronson will host a celebratory kick-off party. The store will then remain open for just two weeks. In December, GUCCI ICON-TEMPORARY will move from New York to Miami. It will then move to select cities in Europe and Asia such as London, Berlin, Paris, Hong Kong and Tokyo.
